Biography of Corena for Website
A spiritual calling, passion for praise, attitude of thankfulness, and obedience to God led to the creation of this album. In a world where there is so many opportunities to complain, Corena has found that pressing through, counting her blessings, looking to God, and giving Him praise is a much better deal than complaining.
Corena is the second youngest of nine children reared in a home where playing and singing Christian music was foundational, and most of those who visited expected to be serenaded before leaving. Her deceased parents, Offie and Cora Brown, musicians themselves, would not have had it any other way, and to their memory this album and label (OffieCora Creations) is dedicated.
Throughout her childhood in New Bern, NC, Corena grew up singing in the Wesley Chapel AME Zion Church Choir, with her sibling group called The Brown Sisters, and as a soloist. She credits her brother and manager, Bishop Curtis Brown, Sr., for much of her musical gain, and was a member of his sibling group, Curtis Brown and the New Bern Singing Browns. Of the two CDs that he produced, she served as one of the lead vocalist on both. This motivated her to later pursue a B.A. Degree in Music Industry Studies at the University of the Incarnate Word, San Antonio, TX.
Throughout her career she has sung in great choirs like Pastor Chalk’s International Miracle Gospel Tabernacle Choir, Detroit, MI; Pastor Hagee’s Cornerstone Sanctuary Choir, San Antonio, TX; and the San Antonio Mastersingers, and several college choirs. She has performed at Carnegie Hall and more.
Today, a resident of San Antonio, TX, Corena continues to touch the hearts of masses. Her debut album, “Instead of Complaining, Lord I’m Gonna Give You Praise,” is a true testament of her conviction. In a world where there is so much doom and gloom, she chooses to focus on God’s goodness in her life. Knowing that “God inhabits the praises of His people,” her prayer is that, as you listen to these songs, you will be uplifted, and drawn into His presence with exaltation.
